DELIVERY TRUCK DRIVER Full-time:

Responsible for loading truck, driving to and unloading papers at various drop-off points for distributors, and keeping track of inventory through manifest. Requirements include one-year truck driving experience and a good driving record.

CLASSIFIED TELEPHONE SALES REP. Part-Time:

Responsible for selling and servicing classified advertising by telephone, handling inbound and outbound calls, entering ads in computer terminal and assisting customers with wording and rates. Must have good customer service, spelling, proofreading and communications skills. Previous sales experience preferred. Must be able to work well with others and type 40 WPM accurately. General computer skills and word processing experience needed.

SUBSCRIBER SERVICE AGENT Part-Time:

This position is in our Circulation Department. Receives telephone requests regarding delivery of newspapers, billing and other service-related issues. Interacts with distributors to ensure that problems are quickly resolved. Must be able to speak clearly and concisely in a pleasant voice and possess general office skills including the ability to use a personal computer. Work hours vary between 5:30am and 5:00pm with a rotating weekend schedule.

COMPUTER ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN

The Birmingham News is considering applicants for an electronics technician. Responsibilities include maintaining and troubleshooting electronic computer systems used in newspaper production and general business environment.

A Bachelor's Degree in MIS or related field and 1-4 years previous experience is required. Certifications are preferred. Knowledge of telecommunication systems, PCs, servers, Macs, networks, routers, switches and firewalls is required.

Demonstrated knowledge in computerized manufacturing processes would be a plus. Must be able to work days, nights or weekends as needed. We offer a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package.

INSERTING MACHINE OPERATOR Full-Time:

Do you have experience with mail inserting/sorting machines? The Apprentice Mailer position is in our Packaging and Distribution Department. The job will include feeding insert machines, stacking, inserting and various handling of newspapers and preprints, replacing strapping material, clearing jams on conveyor lines, and running a forklift. Must have mechanical aptitude and be willing to work a day, night and weekend varying shift. Previous experience with inserting/sorting machines and driving forklifts is a plus.

Celebrations/Obit Rep Full-Time

This position is responsible for entering celebration ads in computer terminal, assisting customers with wording, rates and photo sizing. Will also back up obituary clerk by entering ads and confirming them with customers. The successful candidate must have good customer service skills and be detailed oriented. Must type 45 wpm accurately and posses strong spelling, proofreading, communications and organizational skills. Microsoft Word experience preferred.

Retail Account Manager

Responsible for selling and servicing existing accounts, generating new business in Display advertising and related fields, including prospecting presentation and good follow through on sales. Must work well with others and under deadline pressure. Minimum 2 yrs outside sales experience required. Degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field preferred.

SPORTS EDITORIAL ASSISTANT Part-Time:

Clerical duties including phones, compilation of statistical information, and assisting sports editors. Must have basic news reporting and writing ability, basic knowledge of sports, excellent typing and computer skills, and excellent phone manner.

RECRUITMENT TEAM LEADER

Manages the Recruitment team by leading and coaching (inside/outside) sales representatives. Responsible for overall initiatives of cold calling, face-to-face presentations, job fairs, and special advertisement sections.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or Advertising. Human Resource experience/degree also acceptable. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience. Must have at least two years sales experience. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

HUMAN RESOURCES REPRESENTATIVE Part-Time:

This position will have primary recruitment responsibility in assigned areas. Additionally, the position will assist in all areas of employment to include: reference/background checks, advertising, reviewing applications and representing the company at various recruitment opportunities such as career fairs, campus visits, etc.

Along with these professional duties, the position will also perform other administrative duties as assigned and will provide service as needed to customers of Human Resources both in person and by phone. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, and at least 1-4 years of recruiting experience.
