How do I submit material to the Editorial and Opinion pages?

All submissions to the editorial page may be sent by email to epage@bhamnews.com, mailed to P.O. Box
2553, Birmingham, AL 35202, or faxed to 325-3345.

Readers’ Opinions (letters, faxes and e-mail) appear every day on the editorial page. Readers’ Opinions
should be about 200 words and must include the writer’s name, address and daytime telephone number.

My Turn is a 600-word commentary that runs on the Opinions page on Sunday. For questions, call Eddie

How do I submit information to the Sports section?

The Recreation Calendar appears Wednesday in the community/high school sports sections. It includes
listings of upcoming recreational sports events such as runs, bicycle rides and golf and tennis tournaments.
To submit an item, email to mknox@bhamnews.com or mail to Community Sports, The Birmingham News,
P.O. Box 458, Clay, AL 35048-0458. Send faxes to 815-9245. Items are due seven days prior to publication

Sound Off is a readers’ opinion column that appears Sunday in the Sports section. To voice an opinion,
call 325-3175, email sports@bhamnews.com, fax 325-2425, or write Sound Off, The Birmingham News
Sports Department, P.O. Box 2553, Birmingham, AL 35202. You must include your name, address and
phone number for verification.

For high school sports results, metro Birmingham coaches, or their designated scorekeepers or team
parents, are encouraged to report game results and highlights by calling 325-2427.

Community sports results are published Wednesday in the community news sections. Coaches or
designated representatives of neighborhood sports leagues, associations and clubs in Jefferson or Shelby
counties are encouraged to report results. Email results to mknox@bhamnews.com, fax to 815-9245 or mail
to Community Sports, P.O. Box 458, Clay, AL 35048-0458. Deadline is 10 a.m. on Mondays. Be sure to
include contact name and number. For teams with participants from throughout Jefferson/Shelby counties,
please include each participant’s community of residence, if possible.

How do I submit information to the Local News section?

Around Your Corner appears Tuesday-Friday in the Local News section and contains announcements
about awards and achievements by local residents. To submit an item, email ckelley@bhamnews.com or
mail to Around Your Corner, The Birmingham News, P.O. Box 2553, Birmingham, AL 35202. Include a
contact name and telephone number. For questions, call Christie K. Dedman at 325-2140.

Social Scene, a community social column, appears Wednesday in the community news sections. It includes
news about parties, teas, brunches, club news and charity events. Items must be received at least seven

Classroom Clips appears Wednesday in the community news section. The feature includes awards,
achievements and new programs in area elementary, middle and high schools. Teachers may submit items

Snapshots is a photo album of neighborhood activities that appears Wednesday in the community news
sections and Friday in the Faces section. To submit a photo, email it to snapshots@bhamnews.com or mail

How do I submit information to the LifeStyle section?

Good Neighbors is a reader exchange column that appears Sunday through Thursday. It includes school
and military reunions as well as searches for specific, products, song titles, discontinued china, etc. To

Scribblers is a social column that includes benefits and social events of community-wide interest. It appears
Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday in LifeStyle. To submit an item, email information and photos to

Birmingham, AL 35202.

Our Wedding is a feature that appears Sunday in LifeStyle highlighting a recent wedding. Couples who

cguster@bhamnews.com. Announcements about weddings, engagements and anniversaries are handled
as advertisements that appear Sundays in the LifeStyle section. Announcements must be received 16 days

How do I submit information on arts and entertainment?

Friday’s City Scene has calendar listings for music, dance, theater, lectures, special events, festivals,
galleries and family events. Sunday’s Pop & Culture section includes those listings and also announces
upcoming book signings by visiting authors. Deadline for both calendars is Friday at 5 p.m. for the following
week’s publications (that’s seven days in advance for City Scene, nine days in advance for Pop & Culture).

The Health report appears Monday, with news and features about medicine, fitness and health-related
subjects. The report includes these regular features: Health Notes, items about health-related honors,
awards and job promotions; Health Calendar, which includes listings of health-related meetings and events;
Support Group listings for health, eating, addictions and mental health problems. This feature appears

How do I submit information about businesses in the area?

Business news releases may be sent to biznews@bhamnews.com. The Human Resources feature
contains news about local companies and business people. Business Calendar is a listing of business-
related meetings and seminars.To submit an item for either column, email biznews@bhamnews.com or
